MANILA, Philippines – To help drivers save time and avoid traffic, automated parking is now available at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
This means that entrances at the parking area will now be unmanned. Drivers will receive an automated ticket and will exit the area via a QR code.
The new system has been implemented at Terminal 3 since the beginning of the month.
Starting March 14, the system will be available in Terminals 1 and 2, and it will also start accepting GCash, PayMaya, debit and credit card payments. The New NAIA Infra Corporation (NNIC) will also introduce autopay stations in the terminals by July.
For now, though, the automated system at Terminal 3 will only accept cash payments.
Meanwhile, real-time parking slot displays will be installed in the terminals — Terminal 3 will have them available by April, while Terminals 1 and 2 will have the screens by May. This will make it easier for drivers to find available parking slots instantly as they will no longer need to drive through the parking lot to find a spot.
This is the latest update on parking and transportation options at NAIA. The Ramon Ang-led NNIC has been introducing updates to the country’s aging international gateway since the government turned NAIA over in September last year.
Among the first changes announced were the increase in overnight parking fees, which now stand at P1,200 for cars every 24 hours.
Last December 2024, the new operator introduced a new centralized ride-hailing and taxi hub at NAIA Terminal 3 to help passengers immediately book a ride home or to their next destination. Ride-hailing platforms such as Grab, Angkas, and JoyRide have their own booths at the hub. (READ: To Grab or not to grab: An old practice dies hard at NAIA)
In January, the NNIC also announced that the main arrival curbside at Terminal 1 is now also open to all private vehicles, lifting its restriction that made the area available only to VIPs. Only Bays A11 and A12 at Terminal 1 are reserved for VIPs, while terminal transfer shuttles are located near Bay A14. – Rappler.com
