I switched to the vivo V50 for one week

Two things stood out to me as I switched from my regular phone to the vivo V50 for the week.

First, my week using the vivo V50 was filled with oohs and aahs as people wondered what this chic-looking phone in my hand was. Second, I kept forgetting to charge the phone, but that didn’t matter much because I would spend a solid 36 hours, more or less, before I got a low-battery notification.

The vivo V50’s specs on paper seem like a good deal for its price.

Much like its predecessors, this device houses a powerful ZEISS co-engineered camera system with the Aura Light, and is powered by a chipset that can handle most productivity and content creation needs.

After a week of using the vivo V50 for work, posting on social media, and playing casual games, this is an easy recommendation to make, especially for someone who is always glued to their phone, whether they’re taking fun photos and videos or finishing some work.

Performance you can rely on
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon® 7 Gen 3 processor (4 nm)
  • 12 GB RAM + up to 512 GB ROM (with up to 12 GB expandable RAM)
  • Android 15

Daily tasks like opening messages or replying to emails, sending voice notes to friends, using ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, and browsing social media are a breeze for the vivo V50. Not once did I experience any lags, even when I switched back and forth between multiple apps.

This is honestly a big deal for me personally. As someone who lives a fast-paced life, I need to have that level of confidence that the device I use won’t fail me and won’t slow me down.

And since productivity and social media apps were too easy for the vivo V50, I tried something more challenging instead.

First, I tried editing content on the V50. I downloaded CapCut and loaded in different kinds of footage. Working on 1080p videos was smooth on this device, and exporting 1080p videos was very fast.

Then I tried 4K footage, which is where the V50 struggled but powered through nonetheless. There was some slight lag scrubbing through 4K footage on CapCut, but even laptops have trouble with this, so this is by no means a deal-breaker. I am, however, very happy to share that exporting a 1-minute and 30-second video in 4K only took the V50 less than 3 minutes to complete, which is still pretty fast.

The vivo V50’s reliable performance is thanks to two things. First, it uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon® 7 Gen 3 processor. Second, the phone has 12 GB of RAM natively, but it can expand this up to another 12 GB of RAM by temporarily converting idle ROM space.

Oh wait, there’s a third thing that supports this, too – one that we have already mentioned – its large battery.

Large battery, power-efficient
  • 6,000 mAH BlueVolt battery
  • 90W FlashCharge
  • AI-powered battery management

A powerful processor won’t mean much if your phone keeps throttling performance to save power.

Despite the phone being so thin (7.57 mm) and lightweight (199g), vivo managed to fit a 6,000 mAh battery into the vivo V50, thanks to its proprietary BlueVolt battery, which uses industry-leading second-generation silicon-carbon anode technology. It also has energy-saving software that makes the phone more power-efficient.

For seven straight days of using the vivo V50, I only had to charge this phone around four times.

I would go for about 30 to 36 hours before I hit the 20% mark and get a low battery notification. This was after moderate use of the phone for work and entertainment – checking and replying to messages, browsing social media, streaming YouTube videos and Netflix, listening to music, and the occasional snap for Instagram.

Even then, I’d still use the phone for a few more hours before needing to plug it in and charge, which would also be very fast thanks to its 90W FlashCharge capabilities. It only takes the phone about 45 minutes to have a full charge.

This just goes to show how reliable the vivo V50 is, especially for people who move around a lot and use their phone for work or shooting content – which is another feature this phone excels in, by the way.

Pro portrait photography made fun
  • 50 MP ZEISS OIS Main camera
  • 50 MP ZEISS Ultra Wide-Angle Camera
  • 50 MP ZEISS Group Selfie Camera
  • CIPA 4.0 DSLR-Level Stabilization
  • AI Aura Light 2.0

One thing that I feel the vivo V-series always nails is the phone’s camera system. I’ve tested previous vivo V-series devices and can honestly say that they make phone photography a fun experience for everyone.

This is due in large part to vivo’s collaboration with ZEISS.

The vivo V50 has three 50 MP cameras – two in the rear and one in the front. All of these are co-engineered by German optics company ZEISS which makes sure that image quality and camera performance are top notch.

WIDE ANGLE GROUP SELFIE. The vivo V50 is equipped with a 92° AF wide-angle front camera

Photos taken with this phone look crisp, and the colors are vivid and natural-looking at the same time. For the rear cameras, you also get options to use conventional focal lengths that portrait photographers commonly use: 23 mm, 35 mm, and 50 mm.

MULTI-FOCAL LENGHTHS. The vivo V50 can replicate 23 mm, 35 mm, and 50 mm lenses commonly used for portrait photography

There are also the ZEISS-style bokeh filters, which are based on camera lenses that have been popular among photographers and filmmakers throughout ZEISS’s history.

And as the phone is thin and light, using this as your primary camera for trips is a no-brainer.

For content creators, people constantly moving

When I think about who would enjoy using this device, I think it would be people like me who move around for work a lot, who need to be constantly connected, and who love to take photos.

I’m always going from one location to another for shoots and interviews, and I love trying out different cafes and restaurants when I get the chance. I may not post on my social feeds a lot, but I do post tons of IG stories.

I also found out that the phone is equipped with 360° Omnidirectional Antenna 2.0 and Signal Bridge Technology, which basically keeps you connected even in areas or spots with weak signals, like elevators or staircases. This was difficult for me to test, but I did have a signal still while inside the elevator in my office building.

So, if you need a device that performs well, has a large battery capacity, is easy to tuck in your pocket, and can take good photos and videos, then the vivo V50 is a device you should consider.
